Syracuse University’s OrangeGrid uses the HTCondor High Throughput Computing System and a custom virtual machine manager to allow idle computers in offices and student labs to run research-computing tasks. With over 7000 CPU cores, and growing, OrangeGrid is used by Syracuse University’s research and teaching community for science and engineering applications.
Investment in campus cyberinfrastructure (CI) is essential to answering many of the most fundamental questions in science and engineering. Syracuse University has created a campus CI engineer position to provide the technical expertise and leadership to realize the potential of existing investments in CI and to guide strategy for future investments for research and education.

Research Computing Advisory Council (RCAC)
The RCAC advises ITS on research efforts and investments surrounding the Academic Virtual Hosting Environment (AVHE), OrangeGrid, the Green Data Center (as it relates to research computing), and future resource investments. In collaboration with the larger research community and ITS, RCAC represents the needs of the research computing community to the University leadership.
Open Science Grid (OSG)
The OSG facilitates access to distributed high throughput computing for research in the US. The resources accessible through the OSG are contributed by the community, organized by the OSG, and governed by the OSG consortium. In the last 12 months, we have provided more than 800 million CPU hours to researchers across a wide variety of projects. Our research highlights collection provides examples of what work is being done on OSG, and the OSG Display provides an overview of usage over time.
